Top 5 Cozy Switch Games to Enjoy with Coffee
A lot of time not spent with a coffee and a book is spent with a coffee and my Nintendo Switch. When I want a break from reality, there are many ways to be teleported to a fantasy world where you don't have to worry about anything. I have a list here of the top 5 cozy games on the Nintendo Switch to ease your troubles away as you pour your second cup.
5. Cozy Grove
Cozy Grove is probably the most unique out of the bunch as it is more straightforward in terms of story and things to do. This game takes place on a haunted island that happened to suck all the color away. You, daring adventurer, are here to craft, cook, and make friendships with cute ghost bears to bring life back into the world! Cozy Grove is usually on sale for $10 or less and I think that it goes great with a nice rainy day.
4. Palia
From here on out we get into a choose your flavour type of situation. Palia is a farming/cooking/lifestyle simulator with a bunch of interesting creatures/people. The interesting thing here is there are other human players running around and doing quests. You have your little stamina bar, daily chores, and relationship meters, as usual. This may be the most realistic take on the sim (minus the creature inhabitants) on this list but it is as equally as addictive. Palia is free to play and a great way to spend a few hours.
3. Disney Dreamlight Valley
Okay. This is actually my number one BUT it is number 3 on this list for a reason. The other two games are more distinguished and polished. That being said, in Disney Dreamlight Valley you get to run around with ALL of the Disney pals as they become your friends. That's right, want to go fishing with Goofy? Check. Gardening and side-questing with Mickey Mouse? You betcha! Your job is to restore Dreamlight Valley to all it's glory as a mysterious darkness is taking over the land. This cozy little slice of awesomeness is fresh with updates and comes with the coolest Disney apparel and items for your world. Dreamlight Valley runs typically between $30-$40 and can be snagged as low as $20 on sale. Highly recommend.
2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The game that got everyone through 2020. Animal Crossing. This game is the perfect blend of design, customization, cozy, and fun! If you need an intro to Animal Crossing, here it is: You are sent to an island to work and start anew with the help of Tom Nook. Make friends, grow crops, go fishing, and more! With a fun soundtrack and even funnier voice lines, Animal Crossing brings that "I may just call off work to show off my island" type of feel. The most expensive game on this list runs around $60. It's worth every dollar.
1. Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley has my favorite soundtrack out of all these games AND has my favorite gameplay. There is basic combat, mining, fishing, crops, and design. While the design itself isn't as robust as Dreamlight Valley or Animal Crossing, you can shape your plot of land to look pretty much how you want it. This game may be responsible for the huge influx in cozy games itself and it proves why. Get married, have a pet, or both. Sick of being a corporate jobber, you live out your life aking over your grandpa's farm when he passes. A bunch of fun characters and extremely addictive gameplay and secrets make Stardew Valley your PERFECT cozy adventure. You can snag this up for around $15.
